Find out how to access NHS mental health services and where to get urgent help.

If you need urgent mental health crisis support 

  • call NHS 111 and press the mental health option for 24/7 mental health crisis support, for anyone of any age 
  • contact the Samaritans 
  • call 999 if it’s a life threatening emergency. 

There are a number of services that you can access or self-refer to (self-refer means you do not need to have been referred by your GP or medical professional to use the service).

You can also contact your GP who will be able to provide advice on how to deal with your symptoms and talk to you about available treatments and support services that are available locally.

Specially-trained mental health staff will speak to you and discuss your mental health care needs – instead of having to go to accident and emergency departments in local acute hospitals. This service is available 24/7, 365 days of the year.
