This policy covers arthroscopic washout/lavage of the knee, with or without debridement, as part of treatment for knee osteoarthritis

Ganglion Excision (hand/wrist)
This policy covers requests for the excision of ganglion cysts of the hand and wrist, including: Wrist ganglia, Seed (palmar) ganglia and Mucous cysts. It applies to primary and recurrent ganglia.

Exogen® Bone Healing System – Fresh Fractures
This policy covers use of the Exogen® low-intensity pulsed ultrasound bone healing system for fresh fractures, including those at low or high risk of non-healing.

Dysthyroid Eye Disease (TED)
This policy covers requests for surgical Management of dysthyroid (thyroid) eye disease (TED). Medical management of mild TED is routinely funded.

Bobath Therapy -Intensive Neurodisability Therapies
This policy covers requests for Bobath therapy or similar intensive neurodisability programmes including referral for assessment and/or treatment at Bobath centres or equivalent providers.

Dilatation and Curettage (D&C) for Heavy Menstrual Bleeding
This policy covers Dilatation and Curettage (D&C) requested for diagnosis and/or elective treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB)

Biological Mesh
This policy covers requests for the use of biological mesh in abdominal wall hernia repair or closure of laparostomy.

Surrogacy
This policy covers requests for NHS funding (including part-funding) for surrogacy arrangements and any treatment delivered as part of a surrogacy cycle Including both “traditional/straight” and “gestational/host” surrogacy where NHS funding is sought.

Tonsillectomy for Tonsilloliths
This policy covers tonsillectomy requested solely for tonsilloliths (tonsil stones).

Removal of Adenoids for Treatment of Glue Ear
This policy covers requests for adjuvant adenoidectomy undertaken at the same time as grommet insertion for treatment of glue ear (otitis media with effusion).

Tonsillectomy for Recurrent Tonsillitis
This policy covers requests for surgical removal of tonsils for treatment of recurrent acute tonsillitis.

Snoring Surgery (for adults in the absence of sleep apnoea)
This policy covers surgical procedures for simple snoring in adults without diagnosed obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) including procedures to remove, refashion or stiffen the soft palate (e.g. uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty, radiofrequency ablation) in an attempt to improve the symptom of snoring.

This policy covers the assessment and surgical management of Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS).

Open and Upright Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scans
This policy covers requests for open or upright MRI scans for patients with claustrophobia and/or obesity. This does not apply to open/ upright MRI scans required for medical emergencies, or for patients undergoing investigation for cancer.
