NHS Central East Integrated Care Board (ICB) was formed on 1 April 2026 and is the successor ICB to NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes ICB, NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICB and the Hertfordshire part of NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex ICB. NHS Central East ICB had transferred to it the property, rights and liabilities of the predecessor organisations.
The actions and decisions of the predecessor organisation, including relevant clinical commissioning policies, relevant prescribing decisions and recommendations and relevant clinical pathways continue in effect. There are differences in places between some clinical commissioning policies, prescribing recommendations and pathways from the predecessor ICBs. Where differences exist between the legacy Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK), Cambridgeshire and Peterborough (C&P), and Hertfordshire areas, these are clearly identified on the relevant pages so that users can easily determine which arrangements apply in their locality.
Prescribing guidance, formularies, pathways and information for healthcare professionals transferred to NHS Central East ICB from each of the relevant predecessor ICBs remain applicable to each part of the population for who they were originally created. These different guidelines will continue to apply to the relevant populations unless or until any new guidance is adopted by the NHS Central East ICB (after public involvement if required).
Finding prescribing guidance, pathways and information
We have now developed a dedicated prescribing guidance, pathways and information section within the Healthcare Professional area of the NHS Central East ICB website, bringing together key resources from across the system in a single place.
Priority prescribing guidance, pathways and information from Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough have now been migrated to the NHS Central East ICB website.
Hertfordshire content remains under review. During this transition, the relevant Central East pages will link directly to applicable Hertfordshire guidance held on the legacy website. This will enable users to find the prescribing information relevant to their area from the Central East website.
As Hertfordshire content is reviewed and moved, the links will be updated. Where existing guidance is replaced by NHS Central East ICB guidance, this will be clearly identified.
Healthcare professionals should continue to use the guidance, pathways and formulary applicable to their patient’s area and care setting during this transition period.
