Greener Primary Care
The BLMK ICS Green Plan 2025-32 sets out the strategy and delivery plan to support our vision statement “People, Places and Planet” – delivering the best possible health for all and the highest value healthcare, which can only be achieved by living in harmony with our environment
Why this matters for Primary Care
Primary Care is often the first point of contact for patients, and it is increasingly affected by health impacts linked to climate change. Moving towards more sustainable healthcare will help reduce pressure on services while improving outcomes
Sustainable changes in Primary Care can bring clear benefits:
- More digital services releases staff time
- Better overall health reduces demand for appointments and prescriptions
- Reduced use of single-use items lowers waste and disposal costs
- Improved energy efficiency cuts utility bills
Resources
To help teams across all areas of Primary Care take action, a set of practical resources has been developed providing both the case for change and the tools to support implementation:

BLMK Primary Care Sustainability Network
The network meets virtually every 6 weeks and covers a different topic each time.
It is open to anyone in Primary Care who would like to:
- know more about how you can reduce your practice’s carbon emissions
- hear from subject matter experts
- network with others who may be experiencing similar issues or dilemmas to find solutions
