In line with expert advice, people who fall into one of the following groups are eligible for a spring vaccination:
- People aged 75 and over (or who will turn 75 by 30 June 2026);
- People aged six months and over who have a weakened immune system;
- Residents of care homes for older people.
If you are going to turn 75 before the end of June, you don’t need to wait for your birthday: you can get vaccinated at any time. If you are under 75 and unsure whether your health condition entitles you to a vaccination, you can check the NHS website for more details.
There are different ways to arrange a COVID-19 vaccination:
- You can book an appointment online at www.nhs.uk/get-vaccination or via the NHS App.
- You can call 119 to book an appointment.
- You can find a convenient, local walk-in venue at www.nhs.uk/covid-walk-in. You don’t need an appointment but please check opening times and which age groups they vaccinate before attending.
- If you live in a care home for older adults, they may arrange for someone to visit you to give vaccinations.
- You may be contacted by a local NHS service if they are offering COVID vaccinations, such as your GP surgery.
Cali Makewell, Strategic Vaccination Lead at NHS Central East Integrated Care Board, said: “COVID-19 hasn’t gone away but your protection from previous vaccinations does wane over time, so it’s important to come forward this spring and top up your protection if you are eligible.
“Being vaccinated can help prevent disruption to your life this summer, so don’t risk ruining your plans for a holiday or for precious time spent with friends and family.
“Remember: getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against serious illness.
“The virus continues to be dangerous for those most at risk, particularly older people and those with weakened immune systems, so we are encouraging all those who are eligible to come forward as soon as possible to get protected.
“You do not need to wait for an invite before booking – it’s easy to book, online or by phone, or to find a walk-in venue near you.”
